Certification and Part P
All electrical work in the home must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. Using a qualified electrician registered with a government-approved competent person scheme — such as NICEIC or NAPIT — allows the work to be self-certified without a separate building control inspection. Always ask to see your electrician's registration before work begins.
Common Electrical Jobs
Domestic electricians carry out a wide range of work including consumer unit replacements, partial and full rewires, additional circuits and sockets, EV charger installation, security lighting, and smoke alarm systems. For rental properties, an Electrical Installation Condition Report is a legal requirement every five years.
Solihull is a large town in the West Midlands, known as one of the most prosperous towns in the UK. It is home to Jaguar Land Rover's headquarters and the NEC (National Exhibition Centre), one of the largest exhibition centres in Europe. Birmingham International Airport is located in the borough. The town has high-quality retail at Touchwood shopping centre and excellent commuter links to Birmingham city centre.
Older Properties and Wiring Upgrades
Homes built before the 1990s may have wiring that no longer meets current standards. Signs include round-pin sockets, older fuse boxes with ceramic or rewirable fuses, or black rubber cable insulation. A qualified electrician can assess what upgrades are needed and whether a full rewire or targeted improvements are the most appropriate solution.
