How To Make Sure You Get A Good uPVC Window Deal

Pick up a local newspaper, watch the TV and at certain times of the year you can be bombarded with so called uPVC window offers, but how do you ensure you get a good deal?

Get Real Quote Based On A Site Visit

It doesn’t matter how tempting an advertised deal may look, it will not be until the double glazing company visits your home and gives a firm quote, will you know the true actual cost of fitting your windows.

We have all seen the deals. “Buy One Get One Free”, or buy the downstairs windows and get upstairs free. What many don’t know is if that single window price, is inflated to incorporate the cost of the second window. Lets be honest we don’t buy double glazing that often, (sometimes only once in a lifetime), so how would they know.

There can be unknown extras, such as locks and fittings, so until you have a completed quotes on the job in writing, do not assume you have the best deal.

Is It Price Or Quality You Are After?

All uPVC window installations should look good when completed, what may be a more astute question, “what will my windows look like in 5 years or 10”? Will they leak, or still be secure and keep intruders out?

Windows are manufactured from “polyvinyl chloride” or a more modern process is called unplasticized polyvinyl chloride and of course can be made to different grades. Older polymers have been known to discolour, so ensuring what guarantees you will get from the supplier.

Most firms have model set ups, showing how the windows are manufactured, these can be very useful to compare what you can’t see.

Don’t Forget The Fittings

The importance of fittings like hinges and locks can not be understated, what is the point of high quality windows, if they have to be replaced because of snapped hinges that can no longer be located, or locks needing to be broken open etc. “Pitting” can also be an issue, especially near the sea or weather hard areas.

How Long Have They Been In Business?

A long negative issue to uPVC window installers, are those that disappear and then sometimes re-start with a different business name. Any guarantees promised from the sale are then “null and void”. Firms with a proven history are something to consider, but be warned, often these are not the cheapest, but there is a greater chance of guaranteed been honoured, should there be a fault with the windows at a later date.

Maybe there is a lot to consider here, but what should not happen is to trust any salesman's talk, until you have had it confirmed by other sources
